HISTORY OF KCNW AM-1380
KCNW serves the Kansas City, MO area with a population of 2 million. KCNW signed on in 1953. In the 1960's KCNW operated under the call letters of KUDL and was Kansas City's "Top 40" station. In 1973, the station carried adult contemporary music. The call letters were changed to KCNW representing "Kansas City's News" when the news talk format debuted in 1975. In 1978, KCNW started broadcasting Christian music and programming yielding the acronym "Kansas City's New Way".
With the exception of a brief two year period, KCNW has been broadcasting a Christian formatted station for over 30 years. In 2001, Wilkins Communications Network acquired KCNW and committed to airing 24-hour Christian teaching talk programming.
