HISTORY OF WIJD AM-1270 

WIJD serves the Mobile, AL area with a population of 550,000. The Mobile market ranks #96 according to the BIA Kelsey Advisory Group. The Mobile metro area is the second largest in the state of Alabama and has over 14,000 businesses. Some of the major employers in Mobile include ST Mobile Aerospace, Regions Bank, Alabama Power Company, Kimberly Clark, DuPont, Mitsubishi Polysilicone and Alabama State Port Authority.

WIJD signed on in the 1950's as WAIP with a country music format. Throughout the 1960's and 1970's the station briefly aired a "Top 40" format and later switched back to country music and changed the call letters to WKSJ. In the 1990's, WIJD carried syndicated talk radio programs before switching to a full time Christian formatted station in October of 2003. Wilkins Communications purchased WIJD in 2006 and continued the Christian talk programming.
