Growing Through the Season: What Summer Gardens Can Teach Us About Faith
May 29, 2026
There is something special about stepping into the garden in early summer. Tiny seedlings that once seemed fragile are suddenly stretching taller, blooms begin to appear, and the quiet work of spring starts revealing itself. But if you’ve gardened long enough, you know growth doesn’t happen overnight—it takes patience, care, and trust in what’s happening beneath the surface. In many ways, our faith is no different.
Growth Often Happens Slowly
When we plant a garden, we don’t expect fruit the next morning. We water faithfully, pull weeds, and trust the process, even when progress feels slow. Sometimes our spiritual growth looks the same. We pray, seek God, and try to stay rooted in His Word, yet we wonder if anything is changing.
But God is always working, even in seasons when growth feels invisible. Just as roots deepen underground before blooms ever appear, He is strengthening us in ways we may not yet see. Summer reminds us that patient growth is still growth, and God is faithful to finish the work He begins in us.
Staying Rooted in the Right Source
Summer gardens thrive when they have what they need: sunlight, water, and healthy roots. Without nourishment, even the strongest plants begin to struggle under the heat. Our hearts are no different.
As schedules become fuller and days busier, summer can easily pull us away from intentional time with God. Yet staying rooted in Him is what sustains us. Whether it’s a quiet morning on the porch, a few moments in prayer while watering the garden, or simply noticing His beauty in creation, God invites us to slow down and remain close to Him.
This summer, may we remember that growth takes time, faith requires tending, and the Gardener never stops caring for what He has planted. “I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5
